Abstract

The present study offers an authentic and nuanced representation of the lived experiences of Roma women in Romania by exploring issues of early marriage and domestic violence imposed on Romani women, along with the anti-Roma sentiments prevalent in majority societies, through the lens of Mihaela Drăgan’s monodrama Tell Them About Me. Based on interviews conducted by the playwright, the drama sheds light on pressing social issues, encouraging Roma women’s self-representation. It employs the narrative power of drama to explore the possibilities of individual freedom as reflected in the protagonists' complex dilemmas, decisions, and identities.
